Day 1
Our tour begins at our centrally located hotel in downtown Boston. We meet for an afternoon walk on the Freedom Trail with an entertaining Puritan guide who gives us a great introduction to Massachusetts history. This evening is our welcome dinner at one of our favorite restaurants.

Day 2
Today begins with a unique tour of Bean Town. We hop on a W.W. II style amphibious landing vehicle for a Boston Duck Tour and then walk through the lovely Public Garden to lunch at Boston’s most famous pub, Cheers! We leave the city in late afternoon for a drive north along the Massachusetts coast to Ogunquit Maine. We check into a lovely inn in the heart of this charming coastal town, and tonight we get our first taste of fresh Maine seafood.

Day 3
Today we explore the Southern Maine coast. From Kennebunkport to Ogunquit to York, this region is rich in both beauty and culture. In Kennebunkport we stroll its charming center. In York we see the famed Nubble Lighthouse. In Ogunquit we walk the Marginal Way along the cliff and see the renowned Ogunquit Museum of American Art. Tonight is your choice to dine at one of Ogunquit’s many restaurants. You may want to see a show at the local theater.

Day 4
This morning we visit Maine’s capital city, Portland. Its “Old Port” neighborhood is charming and has a wonderful art museum. After lunch we drive west into the White Mountain region to Jackson, New Hampshire. As we climb higher in elevation, the changing foliage becomes brighter and brighter. As we reach our beautiful inn in Jackson, the trees will not disappoint us with their red, gold and yellow colors almost on fire against the sky. After we settle into our rooms, we can have a drink by the fireplace and then enjoy a gastronomic dinner at the inn.

Day 5
This morning we enjoy a scenic drive through New Hampshire’s White Mountains along the famous Kancamagus Highway, one of the most beautiful roads in the U.S. We take a walk along a trail to see the Flume Gorge in Franconia Notch State Park, where the brilliance of the trees is dazzling. We continue on to lunch at the famous Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods with its spectacular views of Mount Washington. We return to North Conway and explore this charming town before another gourmet dinner at home.

Day 6
Today we go leaf-peeping through New Hampshire, and head west into Vermont. We visit the lovely villages of Quechee and Woodstock, and after lunch we travel the most scenic road in Vermont, Route 100. This rural drive takes us through one picturesque village after another: this is the real McCoy country back road Vermont. After a stop at the quintessential Vermont country store for some samples of local cheddar cheese and home-made maple syrup, we travel to West Dover, VT. We check into our charming inn, perched on the side of a mountain, and enjoy a lovely dinner at the inn.

Day 7
This morning we drive north to the town of Manchester where we visit the homestead of Robert Todd Lincoln, the only surviving child of Mary and Abraham Lincoln. The Lincoln descendants lived on this estate until 1905. The mansion is surrounded by lovely gardens and landscaped grounds. After lunch we stop in Bennington and see the Bennington Battle Monument, Vermont’s tallest structure that commemorates the turning point in the Revolutionary War. Tonight we enjoy another delicious dinner.

Day 8
Today we explore the beautiful Berkshire Mountain region of western Massachusetts. We visit Hancock Shaker Village and have a tour with a local expert guide. We dine at the historic Red Lion Inn in the lovely town of Stockbridge and visit the Norman Rockwell Museum, where we see the largest collection of his work in existence. We take a leisurely drive back to Vermont and enjoy a casual dinner together in the pretty village of Wilmington.

Day 9
This morning we say goodbye to our friends at our inn and venture back into Massachusetts to Historic Deerfield, an authentic 18th-century New England village in the Connecticut River Valley. And no trip to Deerfield is complete without a stop at the Yankee Candle Flagship Store before making our way to the Revolutionary town of Lexington. We will be treated to dinner at one of Lexington’s best new restaurants serving some of the best locally-sourced cuisine.

Day 10
In the neighboring town of Concord, we take a guided tour of the Old Manse, where you can look out over the Old North Bridge to see where the “shot heard ‘round the world” was fired. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nathaniel Hawthorne both called the Old Manse home for a time. Next we fly back in time to April 19, 1775 to retrace the route of the Minute Men and British Regulars as they fought the terrible fight that changed our history. In Lexington we explore the Minute Man National Historical Park before returning to our inn to relax before dinner.

Day 11
A short drive then takes us to the beautiful Cape Ann coast. We stop in the quaint towns of Rockport and Gloucester, which give you a true feel for old New England. After lunch, we drive to where the Atlantic coast north of Boston meets the mighty Merrimack River, the lovely port town of Newburyport. After checking into our historic inn in the center of town, we explore the brick-paved streets of this charming maritime seaport and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 12
A lovely scenic drive takes us to the home of Olde Ipswich Tours, Ipswich! Boasting more 17th century houses than any town in America, we also claim the title “Birthplace of American Independence”. In addition to beautiful ocean and salt marsh scenery, we are known for having the sweetest, freshest clams in the world! We take a guided tour of the 17th century Whipple House, known as the best example of First Period architecture in the USA. After trying some of our famous fried clams for lunch, we get our feet wet trying our luck at clamming with a biologist. We return to Newburyport for an evening on our own.

Day 13
Today we head for Salem, known not only for its witches but for its stately sea captains’ mansions from the 18th and 19th centuries. Beyond the House of Seven Gables and the old Custom House are many little-known treasures of this marvelous maritime port. Its lesser known neighbor, Marblehead, is one of the most beautiful villages in New England, with a picturesque harbor views and 300 year old houses. After some free time to explore, we gather one last time for a sumptuous farewell dinner.

In the morning we drive to Boston Logan Airport for the return flight home.
